NCDA Disaster Damage Infomation Needed

(Updated: Oct. 21, 2024, 3:28 a.m.)

Nursery Producers,

NCDA&CS is concerned about the damage, loss, and welfare of our nurseries in the areas hit hardest by Hurricane Helene this week.  Commissioner Troxler and his team are assessing flood damage in your county.  If you had damage or loss caused by Hurricane Helene, we ask that you contact your Plant Pest Specialist or complete the attached form with details of your losses or potential losses so we can better understand the impacts on all facets of agriculture and work to provide support.

In the meantime, the following are tips that will help us with flood damage verification should it be needed in the future:
  • Document everything with pictures.  All plants, structures, equipment, and supplies that were destroyed or damaged should be photographed.  Keep in mind that for some plants, the damage may not be evident for days or weeks so take pictures of all areas that were under water or potentially damaged by the flooding now and again as you start to see losses.
  • If you remove or destroy plant material, take pictures and make a list that includes the quantity destroyed, size (container size or caliper of field-grown material), and type of plant lost. This documentation will be critical.
  • If you purchase supplies to replace damaged pads and structures, take pictures of the damage and save receipts for replacement materials.

Please contact Jerry Moody, County Extension Director at N.C. Cooperative Extension (828-733-8270) for additional information.

We are very sorry for the loss and devastation many communities have faced. If there is more that we can do, please let me know.

Please complete and submit the form below.
