New Strawberry
Diagnostic Tool

An interdisciplinary team of  NC State College of Agriculture and Life Sciences extension specialists have created a new, mobile-friendly, database driven tool to help strawberry growers visually diagnose disorders. The new Strawberry Diagnostic Key provides a way to filter by visual characteristics to identify problems. Results include details about the disorders and possible management strategies. The Strawberry Diagnostic Key was developed with funding in part from the Strawberry Sustainability Initiativethe Walmart FoundationUniversity of ArkansasSouthern Region IPM CenterNorth Carolina State University Cooperative Extension Service and the North Carolina Strawberry Association.

2015 Avery County
Farm Tour

The annual Avery County Farm Tour is scheduled for Saturday, August 22, 2015.  The tour will visit farms in the Banner Elk area of Avery County and will conclude at Avery Farms in Plumtree with a tour and BBQ. 2015 Farms:  Hal and Patsy Hopfenberg's Farm; Flat Top Brewery; Lynn and Larry Smith's Farm; D.C. and Bonita Smith's Farm; and Avery Farms. Registration will begin at 9:00AM at the Avery County Cooperative Extension Center on Saturday, August 22, 2015.  The buses will depart from the Extension Center at 10:30AM PROMPTLY!!!  (NO CARS WILL BE ALLOWED TO FOLLOW TO THE FARMS DUE TO PARKING SPACE!)
