The Avery County Cooperative Extension Center will be conducting a private pesticide applicator's meeting on Tuesday, March 26th. The meeting will begin at 6:00pm and conclude at 8:00pm.

This workshop is designed to provide growers with an overview of the requirements of the USDA Harmonized GAP Audit, discuss relevant food safety practices for produce farms, and share the resources available from NC State University to help you implement a food safety plan in your farm and become Harmonized GAP Certified.
10:00 am - 12:00 pm - For new growers unfamiliar with GAP certification and writing a food safety plan
12:00 pm - 12:45 pm - Lunch
12:45 pm - 3:30 pm - Outline of new Harmonized GAP requirements for both new growers and existing GAP certified farmers
A representative from USDA GAP auditors will be present during lunch and the afternoon session.
Lunch and materials will be provided to each participant.

The Avery County Cooperative Extension staff will be hosting an Apple IPM class with Dr. Jim Walgenbach, Professor and Entomologist with NCSU.
Dr. Walgenbach will present insect and disease management of our apple trees. The class is scheduled for Wednesday, April 3rd from 3:00-5:00pm and will be held at the Avery County Cooperative Extension Center located at Heritage Park, 661 Vale Rd. Newland, NC.

The Cooperative Extension Staff will be hosting the annual Report to the People Meeting on Thursday, April 18th, 2019. The meeting will kick-off at 11am with a warm welcome from Jerry Moody, County Extension Director.
The staff will be presenting their goals for 2019 and updating participants on the 2018 completed programs.
The meeting will begin promptly at 11am and will conclude by 12:30 noon; lunch will be served.
