Description:

If you area private applicator and your license expires in 2018, you are required toobtain 4 hours of continuing education classes. Private applicators are required to attend both a Safety Training class(sub-class V) and an X category class; each class receives 2 hours ofcredit. 

 IF YOU DONOT COMPLETE the required hours of training, within the three-yearrecertification period, you will then be required to pass a written exam inorder to maintain your license.  Thelicense fee for a private applicator is $10.00 every three years.

The Avery County Cooperative Extension staff, along with the North Carolina Christmas Tree Association Executive Director, Jennifer Greene would like to invite you to attend the OFFICIAL SEND OFF OF THE AVERY COUNTY WHITE HOUSE CHRISTMAS TREE. The tree was selected from Larry Smith's Mountain Top Fraser fir farm located in Newland.

On November 14th the tree will be cut and transported through Newland to the Avery County Cooperative Extension Center (661 Vale Road, Newland) where a press conference will be held, followed by the loading of the Christmas tree; a reception will follow with light snacks.

On November 19th Larry Smith will present First Lady Melania Trump with a REAL FRASER FIR CHRISTMAS TREE for display in the White House BLUE ROOM.

Timber or landscape trees destroyed by recent fires, hurricanes or other storms are “casualty losses” that may allow the property owners to take a deduction on their federal income tax returns. To help timber owners, as well as home owners, who suffered timber or landscape tree damages with their tax reporting, this webinar will focus on the new tax law changes that Congress passed in 2017 that affect the casualty loss deductions starting in the 2018 tax year.

Description: This is the largest commercial vegetable grower event in the region with a high quality educational program put together by vegetable extension specialist/agents at NC State University Cooperative Extension. There will also be a trade show and a fundraiser that supports student scholarships. The program will include presentations on many different topics to help vegetable growers. The final program will be completed in December 2018. Topics will include such things as Management of Foliar Diseases of Tomato, Using Chemigation to Manage Phytophthora Blight, Breeding for Late Blight Resistance and Tolerance to Bacterial Spot and Verticillium Wilt, Evaluation of Tomato Lines for Late Blight Resistance, Flavonoids in Tomato, Evaluation of Insecticides for Key Pests of Fruiting Vegetable Crops, Native Natural Enemies on Biological Control of Brown Marmorated Stink Bug, Growing Industrial Hemp for Cannabinoids in Western North Carolina, to name a few. There will be a sponsored lunch and awards program at noon on Thursday. Pesticide credits will be offered.
