2016 Avery County
Farm Tour

The annual Avery County Farm Tour is scheduled for Saturday, August 27th, 2016.  The tour will visit farms in the Crossnore/Plumtree areas of Avery County and will conclude at Avery Farms in Plumtree with a tour and BBQ. 2016 Farms:  Doug Clark's Farm (Trees and Ornamentals); NC Forest Service Linville River Nursery (Greenhouses and Seed Nursery; Joe Weld's Farm (Horses, Horse Boarding and Hay); Phillips' Farm (Hardwood, Corn, Wheat and Soybeans);  and Avery Farms--Pig Picking (Vegetables , Berries, and Tree Production). Pre-Registration begins July 1st and will end on July 15th, 2016; pre-registration cost is $30.00 per person.  After July 15th the registration cost is $40.00 per person.  NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN FOR ANY REASON!!!! Registration will begin at 9:00AM at the Avery County Cooperative Extension Center on Saturday, August 27, 2016.  The buses will depart from the Extension Center at 10:30AM PROMPTLY!!!  (NO CARS WILL BE ALLOWED TO FOLLOW TO THE FARMS DUE TO PARKING SPACE!) Tool

An interdisciplinary team of  NC State College of Agriculture and Life Sciences extension specialists have created a mobile-friendly, database driven tool to help strawberry growers visually diagnose disorders. The Strawberry Diagnostic Key provides a way to filter by visual characteristics to identify problems. Results include details about the disorders and possible management strategies. The Strawberry Diagnostic Key was developed with funding in part from the Strawberry Sustainability Initiativethe Walmart FoundationUniversity of ArkansasSouthern Region IPM CenterNorth Carolina State University Cooperative Extension Service and the North Carolina Strawberry Association.
