The 4-H YO! Afterschool Program will kick off the 2017-2018 afterschool programs on Monday, August 28th, 2017 at 5 elementary schools, both middle schools and Avery High School.

The Avery YO! (Youth Opportunities) program is an afterschool program that provides childcare and academic enrichment services from the time school dismisses until 6 pm, Monday-Friday. Avery YO! operates at the following schools:  Banner Elk Elementary, Newland Elementary, Crossnore Elementary, Freedom Trail Elementary, Riverside Elementary, Avery Middle School, Cranberry Middle School and Avery High. The Avery YO! Afterschool Program is an ongoing collaboration between Avery 4-H, 21st Century Community Learning Center, Avery County Cooperative Extension, County of Avery and Avery County Schools. Avery YO! sites are staffed with teachers and mentors who meet state licensing requirements for the NC Division of Child Development and Early Education.

Services provided by the Avery YO! Afterschool Program include homework assistance, enrichment activities, hands on learning, individualized goal setting focused on grades and/or social skills, service learning experiences, field trips, and  physical wellness education among many other services our program offers participants and their families. We are committed to teaching, nurturing and encouraging the whole student to grow in a safe, caring setting.

FEE CHANGE FOR THE  2017-2018 YO! Program

Beginning with the 2017-2018 school year, Avery YO! Afterschool we will be charging a fee of $20.00 per month/per youth, (these fees will help cover licensing and other administrative costs). Parents/guardians will receive a monthly invoice from the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service, Avery County Center. This fee will be billed for the previous month.
